We are slowly but surely encroaching upon New Year territory, and so many things in my life – physically, financially, emotionally, spiritually, and circumstantially – have changed for me.
I want to make the last 2 1/2 months of 2026 really count. So I’ve compiled a list of ten things I want to accomplish before 2027 smacks me in the face. Most of these things are already in the works. May this list remind me to stay on track.
- Stock/organize/fill my storage building. Our newest investment…a 12×24 foot storage building. Like a whole tiny house in our front yard. And it was purchased with organization in mind. I need to purchase some shelving and storage totes and then get to work on decluttering this house, and thereby, filling up that building.
- Undergo a hysterectomy. Surgery has been scheduled for November 4, and it is medically necessary, because I have become so severely anemic that the only option outside of this procedure is to get regular IV iron infusions. I haven’t had a real surgery since I gave birth to my son. So my hope is that I recover quickly. Ask me again on November 3, but right now, I’m actually relieved that I won’t have to deal with a lack of energy until I hit menopause.
- Finish the Bible. I’m in Acts right now, and I feel a little behind and insecure, because my husband has already completed it…via audiobook. Granted, I’m reading it – and studying it – at bedtime every night, so I should’ve known it would take me longer. In my Spiral Bible, I’m on Book 6 of 6. The goal has always been to read it in a year, and I’m happy with my progress. But there is no coasting to the finish line…only remaining disciplined and pushing through to it.
- Set up my 2027 bullet journal. I’ve got it all planned in my head. Now I just need to figure out color schemes, print tracker graphs, create my vision pages, and pre-fill my “year-in-a-glance” section. I am really looking forward to it, and I can’t wait to share next year’s themes and pages with you.
- Pay off my credit cards. This can be done fairly easily, as long as I don’t charge them for the rest of the year.
- Learn how to make chicken pot pie…from scratch. Well, except for the crust. Ain’t nobody got time for that. But the filling? Yum. It’s a meal perfect for colder weather, so I’m looking forward to mastering the recipe before next year.
- Clear out my deep freezer. I’m great at buying groceries. I am not great at taking inventory beforehand. So I’ve decided to make meals out of things I already have in an effort to save money and get rid of things that have been in the freezer for a while.
- Get a massage. My back hurts. All the time. Massages were once not affordable. But sometime in the next 10 weeks, I will be scheduling a professional back rub…and by default…a deep, drooly nap. I just want to be able to stand upright without hurting.
- Book a cruise. Cruises were once a “never” for me – because I’ve seen Titanic and I know how it ends. But my daddy and stepmom recently went on an Alaskan cruise, and it just seems like it would be a blast. Cold. Whale watching. Good food that I don’t have to prepare. And no sunburns. And quality time with my old man. If I book it before the year ends, we could actually go in the winter of next year. At least that’s the plan for now.
- Decorate beautifully for Christmas. Last year, my garland and tree were gingerbread themed. I haven’t decided what to do this year (I’m accepting recommendations/suggestions/ideas), but once I do, it’s on like Donkey Kong. What do you all think? Nutcrackers? Woodland creatures? Candy? Or maybe just color combos – navy and rose gold? Sage and cream? Chocolate and gold? I will be doing a pencil tree, garland, and two mini-trees for my fireplace this year. And yes…my wrapping paper has to match the chosen theme. I can’t help myself.
I’m not great with New Year’s resolutions. But maybe…if I can beat the new year by crossing a few things off of my list, I can breathe a little easier in 2027.
It’s all part of my master plan…
…or something.
